Last week I told you how our family had made some school donation kits to donate to some kiddos in need in our local community. I also told you a little bit about Champions for Kids, and their goal to mobilize 20 million of us by 2020 to help improve the lives of children in our communities. Each month Champions for Kids has a SIMPLE service project that you can participate in.

Every SIMPLE Service Project has 4 basic steps:
- GATHER your friends, family, and co-workers.
- LEARN about the needs of children in your community.
- GIVE items to help kids enjoy happier and healthier lives.
- SHARE your story with us to inspire others.
All it takes is a lot of us helping out a little, & by doing this we can help bless the lives of many, many children. I am so excited about participating with Champions for Kids, & I hope you all will get involved as well. We CAN make a difference! #Champions4Kids
The featured SIMPLE service project for this month is Elmer’s #BagItForward. Basically this month we are collecting school supplies for children in need in our communities. Our family chose to donate some school supplies to the United Way of Northwest Arkansas. We chose this organization because all the donations go to help local children. After doing a little digging I learned that over 40,000 families in our community struggle to make ends meet. That is a HUGE number!
Each year our local United Way holds the Stuff the Bus campaign. This year they held their school supply drive during our state’s tax free holiday. They were so smart to do that because TONS of shoppers were out doing their back to school shopping that weekend including our family. We started our back to school shopping early that day around 7 am. The Stuff the Bus drive didn’t start until 10, so we took the school supply kits that we had bought at Walmart with us as we did our school shopping that day.
After we had grabbed lunch we headed over to Walmart (where the Stuff the Bus donation spot was located) to donate the school supply kits we had made.
Our kits included: Elmer’s School Glue, Elmer’s glue sticks, scissors, watercolors, markers, binders, plastic folders with pockets & brads, colored pencils, pencil boxes, crayons, pencils, spiral notebooks, notebook paper
The kiddos handed the donation kits to the United Way volunteer. He said they didn’t need them separated out into kits, so the kiddos helped him dump our supplies into a waiting shopping cart.
It was so exciting to see the bus so full! I know a lot of children in our community are going to be excited to receive these school supplies! I’m glad we could help out a little!

To give you an idea of what school supplies are needed most:

pocket folders with brads, wide ruled notebook paper, college ruled notebook paper, spiral notebooks, pink erasers, #2 pencils, colored pencils, red, black or blue ball point pens, crayons, glue sticks, 2 inch binders, colored markers (regular & washable), highlighters, scissors (blunt & pointed), composition notebooks, plastic school boxes, zippered crayon bags, backpacks (no wheels), sanitizer wipes & tissues
Later on that day (at my THIRD Walmart of the day!) I noticed a Stuff the Bus donation box in the front of that Walmart. Also at many Walmart stores you can find a #Champions4Kids donation box as well. This makes it so easy for YOU to get involved, bag it forward, & donate! YOU can be one of the millions, too.
