Then everyone was excited about trick or treating except my little man!  He didn’t want anything to do with his costume UNTIL he started to help hand out candy to all the neighborhood kids.  Then he put two & two together.  He’s a smartie!

COSTUME = LOTS OF CANDY :)

going pink {my grandmother}

This is my Grandmother, Mary Denton Ault.

 I lost my Grandmother way too early in August of 2004 to cancer.  Today my thoughts & prayers are with all those families that have been touched by cancer.  Those who have lost loved ones, those who are still fighting & those that are cancer survivors.  My wish & prayer is that one day all will be survivors, that a cure will be found & that cancer will no longer take family members way too soon.

{ I posted this on our family blog in February of this year. }

The original post title was

Unfinished Blankets & Snuggle Weather.

“My brothers and sisters
may we resolve from this day forward to
fill our hearts with love.
May we live so that when
that final summons is heard,
we may have no serious regrets,
no unfinished business,
but will be able to say with the Apostle Paul,
'I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.'"
President Thomas S. Monson

Just before my Grandmother Ault
passed away she took me into her back bedroom,
and opened up a suitcase full of quilts,
some finished and some unfinished.
She reached in & gave me a finished quilt
that she had started when I was a baby.
She had just finished it just for me.
I treasure my quilt.
It reminds me of my Grandmother.
She also gave me the material of three unfinished quilts
one for Zach, one for Cailey & one for Rylan.
(Cara & Cole weren't part of our family yet).
She had chosen the material just for them,
but she knew her time was short
& she wouldn't be able to get them finished.
Most of you know I am not the seamstress.
I definitely didn't inherit
my Grandmother's sewing abilities,
but I was determined to get the quilts finished for my Grandmother to see.

I got the kids to help me with them. We sewed the good sides together leaving a little gap open around the edge, then flipped them around, put batting inside, sewed up the hole and then tied each quilt with white yarn. Not as fancy as my Grandmother would of done, but we did the best we could.  Zach has a fire truck blanket, Cailey has a pink rosebud blanket (Grandmother said because she had rosebud lips when she was a baby!) and Rylan has a Little Boy Blue blanket.

Before Grandmother Ault passed away I took a picture of the kiddos with their blankets & put it in a frame for her to keep. I know it made her happy seeing the kids with their "Grandmother Ault" blankets all finished. As the years have passed the blankets have been folded up and put away. Until Miss Cara came along. :) Since she was a little baby she has loved Cailey's Grandmother Ault blanket. It has now been named by Cara as “my flower blanket”. Each night when I tuck Cara in she says, "I want my flower blanket touching my skin." So I always put that one on first, then her warm blanket on top. :) On cold days like today she loves to snuggle up on the couch with her flower blanket & watch TV.

When my Grandmother Ault left this earth, she might have left a few unfinished blankets, but with the things that really counted she left nothing unfinished. She was an amazing women who loved the Gospel & her family. She was strong, faithful and the best grandmother in the world. She knew how to do anything. She was always a phone call or a visit away. I knew she loved me, and I am so blessed to be her granddaughter. I miss her everyday, but I know one day I will see her again. I know now that when she looks down from heaven she can see her little great granddaughter who she never got to meet in this life all snuggled up & warm in her Grandmother Ault flower blanket. I'm sure it warms her heart.

my top three {halloween} crafts for kids

Need some last minute {Halloween} crafts to make?

Give these a try!  So cute!

IMG_0805     IMG_0789     IMG_0321

I saw these adorable mummies on Craftaholics Anonymous, the spider hands we did at preschool & the ghost footprints I saw on Barney! {Yes, you can get crafty inspiration from a purple dinosaur! ;)}  I have since seen them all over blog land…so we had to give them a try, too! We gave them all a thumbs up!  Easy, simple & cute, cute, cute….and a little SpOoKy!!!!

Here’s how we made them…all so easy & oh so adorable & fun to do!

Mummy Tutorial

IMG_0810

You’ll need:

2x4 blocks {ours were about 7 inches high}

some white material ripped into strips

googly eyes

white paint & glue

IMG_0794 IMG_0795 IMG_0796 IMG_0802

We painted our blocks white.  Even my 2 year old painted his own block!  It doesn’t have to be perfect!  Most of it will be covered in a bit. Once the blocks are dry tie the strip of material around the top, wrap around & around, tie again & tuck in any loose ends.  Make a spot for your mummy’s eyes & glue on two googly eyes.  That’s it!  Adorable!

Spider Hands Tutorial

IMG_0786

You’ll need:

orange cardstock

black paint

googly eyes & glue

IMG_0782        IMG_0789

We made these cute little guys at preschool!  You put black paint on both hands & do one hand print at a time overlapping the palm & thumbs, so it makes 8 legs.  Eek!  A spider!!!

IMG_0788

Footprint Ghost Tutorial

IMG_0319

You’ll need:

white paint & black cardstock

googly eyes & glue

Halloween ribbon

boo! vinyl

IMG_0307 IMG_0292 IMG_0293 IMG_0310

Super easy here, too!  Make two footprints with white paint on black cardstock!  Let the paint dry completely.  Punch two holes & add a ribbon to the top, glue on two googly eyes, apply some Boo! vinyl & their you go!  Now these little guys are fa-boo-lous!  Love! {What a fun way to remember how big your kiddos are each Halloween, too!}

What are YOU making this weekend?

fa-boo-lous friday {halloween t-shirt tutorial, features & link up}

Fa-boo-lous Friday!

First up, here’s how I made our

SpOokY Halloween T-Shirts!

IMG_0716 IMG_0717 IMG_0718 IMG_0719

First, I cut some fun Halloween vinyl using my Silhouette & Silhouette clip art.
Then I applied the vinyl to the shirt.  You need to make sure you don’t have any air
pockets around your edges & that all your edges are lying down nice & smooth.
Then take a stencil brush & pat your paint on.  No, back & forth.  Just tap, tap, tap! :)

IMG_0721 IMG_0723 IMG_0724 IMG_0815

It took me several coats of paint.  Especially for the black shirts.
TIP:  Make sure you put a piece of cardboard
between the front of the shirt & the back of the shirt.
Some of your paint will bleed through, so you don’t want that to happen!
After your paint is completely dried, remove your vinyl.  That easy!  Boo! :)
