Hello! Happy Friday! Tonight is our first home football game. So we are excited! That means fall is just around the corner. :) Have you started decorating for fall yet? I haven’t! These pictures are from last year. ha! ;) I usually wait until there is a little nip in the air before I bust out the fall décor & pumpkins. 90 degrees just doesn’t feel fall enough to me. Buuuut it’s never too early to start on some fall projects so you’ll be ready! Don’t you just love the look of large hand painted signs? Buuuut think they look a little too hard to attempt yourself. Well, I’m here to show you how easy it is to make your own custom hand painted outdoor sign using some fabulous DecoArt products.
For this project you will need:
DecoArt Patio Paint
Americana Decoupage
a chunky wood board
Silhouette CAMEO
vinyl stencil (I used this one from the Silhouette online store.)
paint brushes
coarse sandpaper
I used the DecoArt Patio Paint Outdoor for this project. I love the Decoart Patio Paint Outdoor because it holds up so well outside! It doesn’t crack or peel. You don’t need a sealer or any varnishing. It’s weather resistant, & it comes in so many fun colors! It’s just plain awesome!
I also used the matte Decoupage. It’s great for project like this. First you will cut your vinyl stencil out using your Silhouette CAMEO.
Then you will paint your board the color you want your letters to be. I wanted my letters to be dark brown so I used the DecoArt Patio Paint Outdoor in Woodland Brown for this step. Let your paint dry really well. I waited until the next day. Then you will apply your vinyl lettering on top. (If your paint isn’t thoroughly dried some paint might come off with your stencil later on. You don’t want that to happen! So make sure your paint is nice & dry!)
Then you will put a nice layer of the Americana Decoupage on top of the vinyl lettering with a foam brush. This will “seal” your vinyl lettering & prevent seepage of the contrasting paint color in just a bit. Yes, that’s awesome!
I let the Decoupage dry, and then I put two layers of Patio Paint Outdoor in Cloud White on top of that.
Then I removed the vinyl lettering.
I love those clean lines!
I thought my sign needed a little bit of fall color so I used the Tiger Lily Orange & Sweet Pea Patio Paint Outdoor to paint the leaves on my sign.
I tried to add different strokes in different directions so my leaves wouldn’t look perfect! ;)
After the all the paint was completely dried I used some coarse sandpaper to go over the whole board to rough it up a little bit. :)
I love how it turned out! It added the perfect fall touch to our front entry way.
Do you love decorating for fall?
