Hello! Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was a great one! Ours started out hot, & then it turned cool & rainy. I think fall is on it’s way. :) I’ve been busy organizing all of our school supplies & trying to come up with a system that works for our family. I wanted something that would serve the purpose of keeping all the supplies in one spot, was easy to get out & looked cute with our home décor. You know that’s important! ha! ;) I think I found the perfect solution. I used Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint to makeover an old basket that I had thrown out in the garage months ago into a fun homework caddy. So keep reading to see how I did it! :)
For this project you’ll just need a few things:
Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint (I used Delicate & Carbon.)
paint brush
foam brush
old basket
This is my before picture. I really did love this basket when I bought it! ha! I used it to hold our silverware in our old house. We didn’t have many drawers in our kitchen back then. It work great for that. :) Before I got started on my painting I did a few repairs to my basket. A few spots had come loose. So I just hot glued everything in place & made sure we were good to go. :)
I also removed the handles & cleaned the basket out really good with a damp rag. Now we are ready to paint. :)
I decided to paint my basket a cheery yellow color. I used this waxing brush to apply my paint. Since there are so many grooves & crevices in my basket I thought it would be easier to get the paint in there with a brush like that. It really worked great!
Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint is great for projects like this. You’ll have little to no prep work before you start ~ no priming or sanding needed. This is how my basket looked after one coat of paint. I let this dry for 2 hours, and then I painted on one more coat. That’s it!
I reattached my handle & then filled my basket with school supplies for my kiddos. It works great, & it looks super cute sitting out on the table. :)
While I was at it I made this cute chalkboard tag using the Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint in Carbon. Yes, it works just like a chalkboard! :)
