Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it! (Actually it’s only ONE month from today!) Today I’d love to share an easy, yummy & inexpensive romantic meal idea for Valentine’s Day. You’ll also have plenty of left overs to feed the kiddos, too. haha! ;) The ingredients for this meal are easy to find at your local Walmart ~ Buitoni Pasta Sauce, Nestlé Tres Leches baking kit, pasta, spinach & a few other easy to find ingredients. So keep reading to see how I made this easy Stuffed Pasta Shell main dish. Then I’ll show you how to put together an easy Tres Leches dessert that will be the perfectly sweet ending to your dinner! ;)
Stuffed Shell Pasta Dish
You will need:
Buitoni Marinara Sauce 15 oz. (2)
1 box Jumbo Shells (12 oz.)
1 1/2 boxes frozen chopped spinach, thawed (9 oz. box)
small curd cottage cheese tub (24 oz.)
2 eggs
3 cups shredded Italian cheese blend
1 cup cooked lean ground beef or sausage, drained
First you’ll cook your pasta shells in boiling water according to the directions on the box. Meanwhile you’ll mix the cottage cheese, spinach, eggs, meat & 1 cup of cheese in a separate bowl. Stir well. Once your pasta is done rinse & then stuff the shells with the spinach mixture.
Then pour the Buitoni marinara pasta sauce over the top of the stuffed shells.
Then sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top of the pasta & sauce.
Bake in a 350° oven for about 30 minutes or until heated thoroughly & cheese has melted. This recipe will make enough for two pans! So freeze one or pop it in the fridge & cook it for the kiddos when they get back from the babysitters! haha! My kiddos LOVE this meal. It’s a great way to get some green spinach in your kiddos, too! ;) You can print out a printer friendly version of this recipe HERE. I usually serve this meal with some garlic rolls & a veggie. Your sweetheart will love it! You’ll love how easy it was to put together. ;)
For dessert I was able to try out this brand new Nestlé La Lechera Tres Leche Cake Kit. We tried a similar kit back in December when we made some yummy cheesecake bites. I loved how easy that recipe was to put together. So I was excited to try this baking kit out, too. :)
The directions are super easy to follow. You bake the cake, then let it cool for 5 minutes. Then you’ll poke holes in the cake with a fork all over the place. ;) Then you’ll pour a mixture of whole milk, evaporated milk & sweetened condensed milk over the top of the cake. Pour slowly & let it soak into the cake really well. Cover & refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
You can get creative with your toppings ~ fruit, icing, whip cream, etc. We decided on a layer of whip cream.
Then I sprinkled the top with crushed chocolate & toffee. Yummy! :)
I don’t know if you have ever tried cake & milk before. My mom would always make pound cake when we were little, & then we would slice it & put in a big cup of cold milk. We would eat it with a spoon. We loved it! This is what this cake reminds me of a little bit. It was delicious. ;)
What do you usually do for Valentine’s Day?
Have you ever tried a romantic meal at home?
I’d love to hear. :)
PS If you have trouble finding the Buitoni pasta sauce at Walmart ~
look in the cold section over by the produce department. :)
