Hello! Today marks the100th anniversary of the Family Home Evening program. If you haven’t heard of Family Home Evening let me tell you a little bit about it. ;) Family Home Evening is one night a week that our family sets aside to spend time together (usually Monday night at our house). We have a lesson, spiritual thought, sing songs, play a game or other activity & then we have a yummy treat. You can find out lots more {HERE}. Today I am excited to be partnering with some other fabulous bloggers to bring you some fun FHE lesson ideas centered around the talks from this past General Conference.

Keep reading to see a fun idea from our family. Then pop over to the above blogs to see theirs. :)
I loved reading this talk from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. He said, “This is our high and holy calling—to be agents of Jesus Christ, to love as He loved, to serve as He served, to ‘lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees,’ to ‘look [after] the poor and the needy,’ and to care for the widows and orphans.’”
Serving someone else doesn’t have to be big or cost a lot of money. Sometimes giving another person a smile or kind word can make all the difference in the world. :) So we planned a Family Home Evening all centered around the word smile! :)
Purpose: We have been struggling (I'm sure we are not alone!) with our kiddos saying mean things to each other & not being kind. So I decided to create an evening where we could learn how to say kind words to each other, give a smile to someone & make each other smile plus a fun service project to make someone we didn’t know smile. When you make someone smile it really is beautiful thing!
Spiritual Thought: We started our FHE by sharing this quote from Mother Teresa. Love this! :) You can download & print a copy right {HERE}.
Songs:
Smiles
If You're Happy
Then we mailed our "smiley" package to DonateaToothbrush.com so they can hand them out. You can find our more, & see how to donate to Donate a Toothbrush right {HERE}.
Handouts: For the handout I wanted to give my kiddos something that would remind them to speak kind words to each other, to smile more & to make others smile. I found these cute walking mouths at Hobby Lobby in the party section, & then I made some cute smile tags to hang on them.
I first shared this idea over on Jedi Craft Girl as part of her 14 Day Walk with Christ. You’ll want to check out her blog for more ideas to do with your family. :)
