Ginger Snap Crafts: Habitat for Humanity Home is the Key

Habitat for Humanity Home is the Key

I am so excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity this month to bring you some fabulous ways you can help make a difference in someone’s life.

Over the past 40 years, Habitat for Humanity has built thousands of homes in the United States and around the world. By building these homes they are transforming the lives of individuals, families & communities. Habitat for Humanity is one of the biggest affordable housing providers. They are building strength, stability and self-reliance through the homes they help build. Annnnnd I am so fortunate to be partnering them this month in their Home is the Key campaign to bring awareness and raise funding for their fabulous work! I was asked to share what place in my home is key. What symbolized home to me? For me, it’s our front door. Let me tell you why. :)

A few days ago on facebook, I stumbled upon this quote. Something just clicked for me! My kiddos are getting older. Our oldest has been on a mission for our church for almost 2 years. He comes home this June, and when he walks through our front door for the first time after being away for so long, I want him to feel loved and at home! So yes, the front door is key to me. I want my children to always feel welcomed, loved and comfortable as soon as they walk in. I want them to always feel at home. I want our home to be their safe place. No matter how old they are! :)

door will always be open

I know many families aren't able to provide this safe place to come home to. This is why Habitat for Humanity is so important. It is helping to provide affordable housing for so many families. It’s providing that family the most special place to come to…..a home! Isn’t that amazing?! Yes, it is! :)

Home is the Key is Habitat for Humanity’s national campaign to address the nation’s rising affordable housing crisis. This campaign launched last Monday, April 2 in Nashville, Tennessee, as the Scott Brothers raised the walls on two new homes for two local families. (You know the Scott Brothers, right? :) ) This campaign will run from now through April 30, 2018.

Why is this campaign so important right now? Because there is a growing housing crisis in the U.S. One in four households in the U.S. pays more than 30 percent of their income for housing. That is definitely not a good thing for any budget. Paying that much for housing could cause families difficulty affording necessities such as food or clothing. You can hardly find a town or city in the U.S. where a full-time employee earning minimum wage can afford a one-bedroom apartment. Even two such jobs won’t rent a two-bedroom apartment in 29 states and the District of Columbia! :( There is a way to help! YOU can support this fabulous cause in 3 simple ways during the month of April. You can visit, shop or share! Let me show you how. :)
