Good morning! Can you believe it’s December already? This year flew by! So far our fall & winter has been unseasonably warm. Buuuuut that hasn’t stopped us from dreaming of a white Christmas. Since the weather hasn’t decided to cooperate, we decided to take matters into our own hands by making these adorable Snowman Luminaries. These little guys make the perfect kid craft & would be a super cute decoration for your holiday parties. Let’s get started!
For this project you will need:
quart mason jars & lids
decoupage
buttons
orange scrapbook paper
flannel fat quarter
fabric scissors
coconut flakes (or glitter)
hot glue gun & glue
black spray paint
foam paint brushes
battery operated tea lights
filler for your luminaries (white beans, red lentils, etc.)
Huggies® Wipes
FYI: Before my kiddos got started, I had spray painted the lids of our mason jars black & let dry. I don’t trust them with spray paint quite yet!
When we are doing craft projects (or anything messy really) we always have a package Huggies® Wipes open & ready to go! Remember not all wipes are created equal ~ only Huggies® Wipes has triple layers that are thick enough to clean those tough messes! Annnnd boy are we messy!
The first thing you will do is coat your mason jar with a nice thick layer of decoupage.
Next, you will sprinkle coconut all over your jar. Use your hands to press it down.
Set it aside & let it dry.
This would be a great time to clean up a little bit with the Huggies® Wipes. Your hands will be a little bit sticky at this point. :)
Then you’ll gather the rest of your supplies. I had buttons & noses (cut out from orange cardstock), the tea lights & a flannel fat quarter.
Cut a scarf out by cutting a 1 1/2 inch strip of material & then fraying the edges with the scissors.
Tie the scarf around your snowman & then hot glue the eyes, nose & buttons on with a glue gun.
We filled the bottom of our jars with red & green lentils. You could also use beans or rice, whatever you have on hand. Then stick your tea light in right on top of that. Put on the lid, & you’re done. :)
Aren’t these adorable? I kind of love them. They’d make cute centerpieces at a holiday party!
