I am seriously obsessed with vinyl! ha! Vinyl & my Silhouette machine literally changed my crafty life! It’s pretty amazing stuff. I love how you can use it to make signs, stencils, labels, home decor & more. Annnnnd every single time it turns out amazing! I love, love, love vinyl so much! I used a huge piece of vinyl to make this Giant Hello Sign for our front door. I just love it! Let’s get started!
For this project you will need:
1x12 cut to 58 inches long
sander & sandpaper
black outdoor paint
this cut file (or I’ll show you how to make you own!)
white outdoor vinyl*
Silhouette CAMEO (affiliate)
*An awesome place to purchase vinyl is Expressions Vinyl by the way. :)
One of the many things I love about my Silhouette is that I can use just about any font already on my computer to design & cut out my own vinyl lettering. It’s awesome! I’m going to share a little bit of my design process today. First, I always make a box as big as my sign or area I’m going to be putting the vinyl. That way I can see exactly what my design will look like in the space when I’m done.
To make this giant Hello sign I used two different fonts. I use the Elise font from Kevin & Amanda for the H, E & O and the KG Always a Good Time Font from Kimberly Geswein for the two Ls. If you look closely, you’ll notice I overlapped each letter just slightly.
Next, I selected all of my letters & then clicked the weld button at the very bottom.
This combined my letters into one huge shape!
Then I sent this huge file to my CAMEO. I use my Portrait most of the time, but this is definitely a project I had to break out the bigger CAMEO for. ;) You can download this huge Hello cut file by clicking the box below. Enjoy! For personal use only! Thank you!
I sanded, then painted my board black using outdoor paint & let dry. Then I applied my vinyl right on top.
I’m loving my fun new entry way! Annnnd can you believe my summer flowers are still going strong? It’s been a warm fall so far! I’m hoping they last a little bit longer!
