I’m sharing this fun Family Name Signs tutorial. I also have links to tons of other amazing handmade gift ideas, so you’ll want to scroll to the bottom of this post for that. I also have an amazing giveaway with 11 winners. Let’s get started!
I have a big family! It can get expensive if I bought store bought gifts for each family, so each year my family knows I’ll be making their gifts. haha! I made these family name signs this year. I love how they are personalized for each family. Annnnnnd I love the fun colors that gives each one it’s own personality! I even made one for our family. I hung it on our front porch. I kind of love it! :)
For this project you will need:
1x10 board cut into 15 inch pieces
DecoArt white & black chalky finish paint
paint brush
vinyl lettering
ruler
blue painters tape
hand sander & sand paper
saw tooth hangers & drill
First, I painted my boards white. I used 2 coats of paint & then let them dry completely.
Next, I used a ruler & some simple math to divide my boards up to make stripes.
Then I used some painters tape to mark off my stripes.
Then I got out some black chalky finish paint.
This time I used one coat of paint & then let my boards dry.
Then I used a hand sander to distress my boards. Next I applied my vinyl lettering.
TIP: Make sure you use a straight edge to get out any bubbles.
I cut my own vinyl using the Gill Sans MT Ext Condensed Bold & Pea Hannah Vanilla fonts.
Finally, I added a saw tooth hanger to the back using a drill.
I chose a different color for each family. I love all the bright colors.
To give as a gift tie on a thick ribbon & hang a chalkboard wood slice ornament as a gift tag.
You can see how easy these ornaments are to make right {HERE].
