Ginger Snap Crafts: Hand-Carved Pine Trees {tutorial}

Hand-Carved Pine Trees {tutorial}

This post is brought to you by Make It: Fun® Crafts.

Good morning! Hold the presses! It’s my first Christmas craft of the year! Eek! I am so excited about the brand new holiday e-book from Make It: Fun® Crafts. It’s full of 20 projects perfect for the holidays. They are all so cute & easy to put together. Our challenge this month was to choose one of these projects & put our own spin on them! So keep reading, & I’ll show you how easy it was to make these hand-carved pine trees. I’m also sharing some of the projects from the rest of the Make It Fun Team. So let’s get started! :)

For this project you will need:
FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam 24 inch sheets
48 inch green moss sheet
permanent marker
StyroCutter® Plus
hot glue & glue gun
stick & table saw
drill
wood glue
popsicle sticks
hot glue & glue gun
green acrylic paint
foam paint brush

I was inspired to make these trees from these hand carved trees in
Make It: Fun Crafts brand new holiday e-book.

carved trees

First, I freehanded some Christmas tree shapes onto the foam sheets with a marker.

Then I used a StyroCutter® Plus to cut out my trees. This little tool is pretty amazing!
It heats up in 30 seconds, & then it sliced through the foam like butter.

cutting foam

Next I painted the edges of my foam trees with green paint.
Then I traced my tree shapes unto the back of the green moss & cut it out.

fir tree

Using hot glue I glued the moss on to the tree.
You can do this on the front & back of the tree.

To make my tree trunks I found a stick outside & cut it into 3 inch pieces.

wood slice project

I drilled out a little spot just big enough for a popsicle stick.
I stuck my popsicle sticks in & added a little bit of wood glue. Let dry.

Then I slid the stem into the foam to make a cute little trunk. ;)

The next step is optional. I wanted a snow kissed look.

faux snow

So I used some Snow-Tex & added a little bit of “snow” to my trees.

I think these look super cute paired with some pinecones & Christmas décor.
