Hello! Today I am so excited to be over on Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke helping her with her Decorating with Pictures series. :) You’ll have to pop over there to check out my post & to enter a fun giveaway from Designs by RH. You’ll also want to browse the other Decorating with Pictures posts from some of your favorite bloggers. I love seeing how everyone decorates their homes with family pictures. I LOVE family pictures. :) Today I’m excited to be sharing this easy stenciled picture frame tutorial. I’m using these frames to display some of our favorite family pictures on our fridge! I’d much rather see cute pictures of my family over clutter on the fridge! haha! So keep reading to see how I did it!
For this project you’ll need a few supplies:
wooden frames (I found mine at Walmart for $1!!)
acrylic paint
decoupage
foam brushes
1 inch magnet tape
vinyl stencils (I cut these chevron, dots & striped stencils with my Silhouette.)
X-ACTO knife
paste finishing wax
rag
sandpaper
hot glue gun
First I painted my frame the lighter color ~ yellow. I used two coats & let dry.
Next I applied my vinyl stencil. For an easy how to apply vinyl tutorial go HERE.
Then I used an X-ACTO knife to cut away the excess vinyl.
Now my frames looked like this:
Next I put a thin layer of decoupage over my vinyl stencils. I did a more detailed version of this easy stenciling technique HERE.
After the decoupage dried I put two coats of my contrasting color on top. Then I let it dry.
Then I pulled off the vinyl with my Silhouette hook (or you could use tweezers). I love those clean lines! :)
The decoupage acts of a sealer so you’ll get nice crisp lines almost every time using this method of stenciling.
It’s almost a little bit too perfect though! haha! So a roughed up my frames a little bit with some medium grade sandpaper.
I rubbed my frames down with a damp cloth do get all the dust off. Then I used a clean cloth to put some finishing wax on them. I let it dry for about 15 minutes, and then buffed my frames with a rag. This gives them a nice finished look. I first used this finishing wax on my new organizational wall. Love this stuff now! :)
The last thing I did was hot glue some magnets on the back of the frames. :)
I love how happy these frames & pictures make my fridge look! :)
