Worldwide Indexing Event 2016

Good morning! I know I talk about my family a lot! ha! I just love them so much! I also love my extended family, & I love learning about my ancestors & my own family history! In just over 2 weeks we will all have the chance to participate in the Worldwide Indexing Event 2016. This event will help make thousands of records searchable, so others can find out more about their family history, too.

From July 15-17, 2016, FamilySearch International will sponsor their third annual “Worldwide Indexing Event”,72,000 people from around the world together online during a 72-hour event to save the world’s records by making them searchable to the public.

I would love to introduce you my amazing grandparents. This is Mary Lula Denton. She was pretty amazing! She gave me my first Barbie doll, and she made me (& all her grandchildren!) feel like her favorite. ha!

This is her husband & my grandfather, B.A. Ault. He was so funny & he always gave me a $5 bill & a box of chocolate covered cherries at Christmas. He’d always say don’t spend it all in one place. ha! Oh how I miss them!

Both of my grandparents grew up in a wonderful little place called Kelsey, Texas. It was an early Mormon settlement in deep East Texas. It sounds like a magical place. They had their own train depot, school, church & general store & post office. It was a wonderful place to grow up. My grandparents took me back to Kelsey many times growing up.

These are my great grandparents, Joshua S. Ault & Mary Magdalene Wilson Ault. They were the parents of my grandfather, B.A. Joshua S. Ault owned the general store (which housed the Post Office, too) in Kelsey.

Later after the train was rerouted & J.S. Ault passed away, the store was moved. This is the store I remember growing up. My great uncle still ran the store then. (That’s him on the front porch.) I loved getting the old fashioned soda pop in the ice cold glass bottles when I visited.

This is what the store looks like today. I still like to visit though! :)

My kiddos love it when I make them pose for pictures there. ha!

The other old building I love to visit while in Kelsey is the Old Red Brick Schoolhouse. This is where both of my grandparents went to grade school. When I was little we always had family reunions here, & they would play with a flaming fireball in the field next door. Don’t ask! ha!

The school looks like this today. The top floor has since been removed. Annnd they have a small museum inside. If you are ever in Kelsey, stop by! :)

I love having these family history stories & memories with me. I love passing them on to my kiddos. I would love to know even more about those that came before me. One of the best ways to find out more about ancestors is to search old census records, marriage & death records & other documents. That is where indexing becomes so important. Thousands of volunteers have made many of these historical records searchable, but more help is needed.

During the 72-hour indexing period, volunteers participate by downloading the FamilySearch software and completing as many names as they would like.  Anyone with a computer and internet connection can join. 

Volunteers have made over one billion historic records searchable online since FamilySearch introduced online indexing in 2008. The demand for indexed records continues to grow as millions of historical records worldwide are added every year.
