The Cricut Mug Press & all the accessories will be available to purchase this week at Cricut.com. Today I’d love to share another mug press tutorial with you! Yay! This one is for DIY Personalized Kid’s Mugs with the Cricut Mug Press. Let’s get started!
As a reminder, when using the Cricut Mug Press you can make perfect mugs for anyone and for any occasion. You can personalize a mug for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or simply to make a mug for yourself!
Making mugs with the Cricut Mug Press is so incredibly easy! Just cut or draw your design, apply it to your mug, and the press does the rest! Not to mention, every holiday and gift-giving occasion just got even easier, too!
With the Cricut Mug Press you will have:

When I got my hands on the Cricut Mug Press, the first thing I thought of was the how amazing this mug press would be in the classroom! I know many teachers have the kiddos make homemade gifts for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day and wouldn’t this mug press be the perfect addition to the classroom for large scale gift making?! Annnnd the kiddos will get a kick out seeing their designs come to life on a mug that can be used again & again! That idea is what inspired this post! :) Plus my kiddos couldn’t wait to design their own mugs! ha! ;)
For this project you will need:
Cricut Mug Press
Cricut Infusible Ink Pens
Cricut Mug
lint roller
butcher paper
laser copy paper
paper trimmer
Cricut BrightPad (optional)
heat resistant tape
Cricut EasyPress mat or hot pad
First, let me tell you about these ah-mazing Cricut Infusible Ink pens. They come in tons of fun colors & are available from fine tip to markers. They produces vibrant, pro-quality transfers that last a lifetime! As well as using them on mugs & with the Cricut Mug Press, they are also compatible with other Cricut Infusible Ink blanks like t-shirts, coasters, body suits & totes that are used with the Cricut EasyPress (or other heat press that can reach 400°F). The possibilities are endless with these pens! The transferred infusible inks won't flake, peel, fade, crack, or wrinkle! It’s pretty cool! :)
When you are using these pens you can let your kiddos create their very own designs for their very own mug! First, you will use a paper trimmer to cut a piece of laser copy paper to fit your mug. For the small mugs that piece of paper would measure 8.75” x 3.79” and the bigger mug you would need to cut your paper to 8.75” x 4.25”. TIP: You must use LASER copy paper with any Infusible Ink project.
I loved letting my kiddos design their own mugs. They were so excited to this! These mugs would be great for just about any occasion. They could make one for grandma for Mother’s Day, a customized mug for their favorite teacher at the end of the school year, a mug for Dad on his birthday or a mug just for them to sip their hot cocoa from! They can design a mug with their favorite sports, colors, hobbies, animals or even draw a picture of their family or even themselves. These pens make just about any idea they can think of come to life. Also, won’t these mugs make great keepsakes? With the Infusible Ink pens & Cricut Mug Press these mugs will look just as bright & colorful years from now! TIP: If you are writing your name on your mug or any words at all, you will need to draw them backwards. An easy way to do this is to write the word on a piece of paper, flip it over and use the Cricut BrighPad to trace it using the Infusible Ink pen onto your laser copy paper. Does that make sense?
Remember once on the mugs, the colors will appear even more vibrant. Now it’s time to make the mug. First, you’ll clean your mug with a lint roller. TIP: Make sure your hands are nice & dry when working with infusible ink. You don’t want the ink to get on your fingers!
Using heat resistant tape, tape your design onto your mug.
Next, you’ll tape 3 pieces of butcher paper around your mug. This will prevent the ink from seeping through onto your mug press. Secure it with the heat resistant tape.
Next, slide it into your Cricut Mug Press and press the lever down. Then sit back & wait while your Mug Press does it thing! :)
When the Mug Press beeps, it’s time to remove your mug. TIP: This is an adult’s job. The handle will be cool, but the mug will be extremely hot. Place the mug on an EasyPress mat or hot pad. Let it cool from 15-30 minutes.
After your mug is completely cool, remove all the paper & tape. My kiddos loved doing the big reveal. :) Left behind on your mug is your fun design! How cool is that? :)
FYI: The larger size mugs that Cricut sells come with a gift giving box for each mug. You can decorate the box to go along with your mug when giving as a gift. How sweet is that? :) That’s something the kiddos can work on while their mug cools.
