Today we are going to learn Everything You Need to Know About the Cricut Rotary Blade™. When you use the rotary blade with your Cricut Maker you can cut fabric like never before. We will talk about the rotary blade’s features, capacity & how to cut fabric with your Cricut Maker & this awesome fabric cutting tool. Let’s get started! :)
FYI: The rotary blade is part of the Cricut Maker Adaptive Toolset, & it can be used exclusively with the Cricut Maker.
Things you’ll need (in addition to the Cricut Maker) to enjoy the rotary blade:
Rotary Blade Replacement Kit
FabricGrip cutting mat
sewing kit
fabric
washable fabric pen
TIP: For best results, replace your rotary blade when you notice uncut threads or when the material settings in Design Space no longer seem to be right.
The revolutionary rotary blade brings custom made, precision fabric cutting right to your home for the very first time. The blade glides and rolls, and can turn within a quarter of an inch to cut through hundreds of fabrics. I took a video of the rotary blade in action below. It lifts, rotates, changes directions & cuts perfectly! Amazing! :)
The rotary blade allows sewers & quilters (& newbies, like me!) to cut very detailed shapes & patterns with precision that’s just not achievable with plain old scissors. You can also cut up to three layers of fabric at a time. Wow! Now, let’s talk about this blade!
This brand new, super sharp blade cuts beautiful designs out of soft fabrics for sewing projects that are quicker & easier than ever before. It can literally cut everything from silk, cotton, denim, canvas & burlap. It also cuts through felt beautifully. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve heard that the rotary blade can even cut delicate materials like crepe paper. Ah-mazing! :) It’s easy to install & use. Simply set it into place & clamp the door shut. You are ready to roll (well….roll & cut fabric!).

Since Cricut introduced the Maker (along with it’s accompany rotary blade) almost a year & a half ago you can chose from hundreds of sewing patterns in the Cricut® Library, then perfectly mark and cut fabric with your Cricut Maker. Then you’ll get to do the fun part ~ sewing! I admit I haven’t always been the biggest fan of actually sewing, but I’m hoping to change that. ;)

I also used the rotary blade to cut fabric on a cute rag tree pillow.
But instead of sewing I hot glued the pieces on! Ha! ;)
The rotary blade did amazing cutting out all those little pieces!
I also used the rotary blade on a cute monster trick or treat bag.

Again, the rotary blade cut through it like butter! Also, I just hot glued the legs onto the bag (yes, hot glue again!), Do you sense a pattern? I’m not comfortable with sewing at all! Buuuuut I want to be! :)
So, I decided to use the rotary blade as it was intended! I’m going to sew something! Eek! :)
