So, your are thinking about buying a Cricut®? One of the first questions you might ask yourself is:

Cricut Question Series at GingerSnapCrafts.com Question #2

Very good question! One of the first things I would pick up after purchasing a Cricut® would be a Cricut® Essential Tool Set. You can find them in Rose, Blue & Mint. I have the one in rose. Isn’t it pretty?

You will find the following tools inside:

• Tweezers: to grab & pick up tiny pieces of material
• Weeder: to remove small pieces of vinyl when you are weeding (like the inside of o’s & e’s)
• Scissors
• Spatula: to lift cuts from the mat (I like to use this one with paper cuts.)
• Scraper: to rub on vinyl or to clean off cutting mats
• Scoring stylus: to add fold lines to cards & paper crafts
• Paper Trimmer: cuts materials up to 12" wide
• Replacement blade & scoring blade for the trimmer

The tool kits runs about $40 which is a great deal. You can also buy the tools individually as well. These tools are must-haves when working with your Cricut® or really any other digital craft cutting machine. They are awesome. :)

Other things you’ll need for your Cricut® include accessory pouches for your tools ($12.99), mats (starting at $12.99), blades & scoring (starting at $9.99), pens (starting at $3.99 a piece) and bags & totes (starting at $99). Do keep your eye out for sales! Most of the time you can find these products for much, much less!

Now let me show you how I made this simple Kid’s Art Display Board. :)

Supplies:
NEW Cricut® Transfer Tape
Cricut® Holographic Vinyl, Pink
pallet board
clips
Cricut® Essential Tool Set
white chalky finish paint
paint brush

The holographic vinyl is so, so cool! It changes colors depending on how you look at it! I used pink in this project. It goes from a pink color to a gold color & then back again. You can also get it in opal and blue. It is hard to get a picture of though! It loves to reflect light & your camera! ha!

I found the word Create in Cricut® Design Space. Then I sized it to fit my pallet board.
I sent it to my Cricut® to cut out. Be sure to turn your dial to vinyl before cutting.

cricut holographic vinyl

Weed your excess vinyl off using your tools.

Then you will cut a piece of transfer tape to fit your word.

cricut paper cutter

Remove the backing paper on your transfer tape & then place the clear transfer tape on top of your vinyl.
Can I just say how much I love the grid on this transfer tape??!! It will make lining up things so much easier.

creative ideas with a cricut

Remove the backing paper from behind your vinyl & then smooth your vinyl on using the scraper.

cricut tool to use

Remove the transfer tape & there you go!
TIP: The flowers were just cut with a paper punch! So easy!

I then added clips along the bottom to hold the artwork. All done!
