Ginger Snap Crafts: Resurrection Eggs {tutorial}

Resurrection Eggs {tutorial}

Good morning! Easter week is here. Yay! I love this time of year. We have a chance to really focus on our Savior and all he did for me & you! One of our favorite Easter traditions is sharing the Easter story using our Resurrection Eggs set. I am not the one that made this one up. I made our first set when my oldest was just a little guy when I was serving in the Young Women’s organization at church. We all made a set for our families at one of our activities. We’ve used it every year since. Let me show you how to make your own set. :)

I kept that original one I made for years & years & then about 5 years ago I made a new one. This year my oldest son is now married! Eek! Annnnd I wanted to make him & his new wife a set to use in their family. Ours was in need of a refresh, too! So that’s what inspired this post. ha! :)

Basically each egg has a scripture on a piece of paper & an object that goes along with that scriptures. What I love about this is that you probably have all the supplies at home already.

For this project you will need:
an egg carton
12 plastic eggs
Sharpie (to write the numbers on the eggs)
a sacrament cup
3 dimes
twine
piece of soap (I just broke a piece off a new bar of soap.)
small piece of red fabric or felt
nail
dice
crushed rocks (put inside a small Ziploc bag)
small piece of white fabric or felt
small smooth stone
spices (put inside a small Ziploc bag)

***You can print out the scriptures here and then cut them into strips with a paper trimmer.***

Here’s what goes inside each egg.

Egg 1: One sacrament cup

39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. (Matt. 26:39)

Egg 2: Three dimes

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. (Matt. 26:14-15)

Egg 3: Twine with knot in it

1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. (Matt. 27:1-2)

Egg 4: A piece of soap

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. (Matt. 27:24-26)

Egg 5: Square of red fabric

28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. (Matt. 27:28-30)

Egg 6: A small nail

31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. (Matt. 27:31-32)

Egg 7: Dice

35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
36 And sitting down they watched him there. (Matt. 27:35-36)

Egg 8: A tiny bag of crushed rock

50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. (Matt. 27:50, 51 & 54)

Egg 9: Square of white cloth

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. (Matt. 27:58-60)

Egg 10: A stone

65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch. (Matthew 27:65-66)

Egg 11: Small bag of spices

1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. (Mark 16:1-4)

Egg 12:  An empty egg

5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. (Mark 16:5-6)

We take turns opening each egg, showing the object & then reading the scriptures. You could also hide the eggs around the room & then have the kiddos find them & then read them in order as a family. I hope you make a set for your family. :)
