Good morning! How about some football??? Whose going to enjoy some Friday night lights tonight? We are! Wahoo! Football is huge around our little town. Annnnnd it looks like we are going to have another long post season. We are crossing our fingers for another run for the state title. Of course, we’ve got to show a little bit of our Blackhawk Pride at every single game! Today I am excited to show you how I made these cute DIY Cheer Bows for my youngest daughter with my Cricut Maker & Cricut EasyPress. Let’s get started! :)
For this project you will need:
Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker
LightGrip Cutting Mat
Cricut EasyPress
Cricut Iron On Lite (white, black)
Glitter Iron On (red glitter, white glitter)
Iron On Foil (red)
hair bows
towel
First, you will open up Cricut Design Space. I did a quick search for football, and tons of cut football inspired designs popped up! I chose a football, an eagle, a megaphone & then I typed in the monogram for my daughter’s name. Super easy! FYI: The football is image # M401B1, the eagle is image # M39161 and the megaphone is image # M24B56B3.
Here’s a tip! I measured my bows to see how much space I had to work with. After doing that, I knew my design would need to fit in a 3 inch by 3 inch square. So I clicked on shapes & added a 3 inch square to my canvas. That’s just an easy way to make sure my designs would fit perfectly. Once I was done I just deleted the square. :)
Once I had everything sized perfectly I duplicated each design, so I could make 2 for each ribbon. I’m going to be cutting each of these out using a different type of iron on, so I made sure they were all different colors. I doesn’t really matter what color you make them. This is just how your computer will let your Cricut know how to set up your mats & cuts.
Next, I clicked “Make It”. Since we are working with iron on, I had to make sure I mirrored any lettering before cutting. Don’t forget to do that! :)
Another tip when working with iron on! Make sure you put the shiny side down on your cutting mat. You’ll want the dull side up.
Now that everything is cut out, it’s time for the fun! :)
Meet my new favorite machine ~ the Cricut EasyPress! Eek! I met this little guy when I was at the Cricut Mountain Make-a-thon, and I was thrilled when he showed up at my door. This guy makes iron on easy! I struggled with iron on in the past. My regular home iron just didn’t cut it, and I don’t have anywhere to store a huge heat press. Plus heat presses are super expensive. The EasyPress is the perfect solution!
From Cricut ~
Get professional iron-on results in 60 seconds or less. An evenly heated plate and simple controls make EasyPress™ the foolproof way to get flawless transfers that really last.
● Easy to learn, simple to use
● No press cloth needed for most base materials
● Adjustable heat up to 350℉ (180 C)
● Intricate transfers stick after repeated washes
● 9"x9" Base is Great for large or layered iron-on projects
● Lightweight, portable, easy to store
● Compatible with major brand of heat-transfer material
It’s pretty awesome! Let me show you how it works. First, you will lay a clean, dry towel down on flat surface. I just used the top of my craft table. Then you will place your item & iron on decal on the towel.
Heat your EasyPress to your desired temperature. The EasyPress comes with a little cheat sheet with your most popular materials, what temperature to set it at & how long you’ll need to set the timer for. Once your EasyPress heats up (it’s quick), place it on top of your iron on. Push the green Cricut button & your timer will start. Gently press down with one hand. Once the time dings, remove your EasyPress & put it back in it’s base.
Gently remove the backing paper leaving the iron on transfer on your bow. That’s it!
